The setting is Fort McCain, New

Mexico Territory at the turn of the

20th Century. Captain Mellow of the 10th Cavalry arrives to interview

Otis Grey, a veteran army scout who

is accused of unlawfully shooting an Indian.

Flashback to 1867 when Otis Grey as a brand new lieutenant must track down half-breed Kiowa, Billy Songboy and

Buffalo Soldier, Jubal Quinn, after they are charged with murdering a white trooper and flee the stockade.

The story follows the colourful adventures of the two men-on-the-

run as they try to shake off their tenacious hunter. Billy and Jubal are forced to join a band of renegades who are dedicated to a life of murder and pillage. The gang’s brutality proves too much for the fugitives. They escape and warn the inhabitants of a Sonora hacienda that the outlaws plan to attack.

After a stiff gun-fight Jubal and Billy gallop away with two Mexican beauties and now both Otis and the renegades are firmly on their trail.

The chase continues with frenetic action aplenty from the dusty streets of Tucson to the majestic Grand Canyon,

down the Colorado River and finally to the dockside and back-alley’s of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast, erupting in a riveting and violent climax.

When the story returns to Fort McCain’s guardhouse in 1907 the final secrets of the mysteriously slain Indian are revealed.
